Floating docks - the ultimate protection One of the most important features at Marina del Ray is floating docks - the only ones in the area, in fact. These docks are safer in bad weather because they allow boats to rise and fall with the tide, minimizing damage. The marina's inland position, slightly upriver grom Lake Ponchartrain, increases this protection. In hurricane weather, these features are not only comforting to Marina del Ray's boaters, the marina invariably becomes a refuge for boats from hundreds of miles away, including those of the U.S. Coast Guard, Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries, and other official vessels.
